The Flag of Australia
The Australian flag was introduced in 1901 after the States
of Australia were established. The flag is twice as long as it is wide. The
Australian flag consists of three main components. In the upper left corner, is
the Union Jack, or the Canton, signifying
their links with Great Britain. (Great Britain’s flag is just the Union Jack.) In the upper right corner, there
are 5 stars in a sort of diamond pattern that form the Southern Cross. The Southern
Cross is a constellation that is a significant navigational feature of Australia
and the entire southern hemisphere. The constellation has been associated with
Australia for many years. The Star of Federation
or Commonwealth Star located in
the bottom left corner has seven points to represent the six states and combined
territories of the Commonwealth.

wow Aanda that is very interesting! While your's was introduced in 1901, mine was was introduced a lot later in 1981! That is about 80 years differnce. I did not know that the five stars represent the Southern Cross, that's very interesting. My flag has two red stripes and one yellow. This was very interesting to read and learn more about Australia. Can't wait to read more about it!
ReplyDeleteWow! This is very interesting Amanda! what I find most interesting is how big the flag is. Two times as long as it is wide. That must be some kind of record or something. Another thing that I did not know is that those stars had a meaning. My country's flag is quite different. It has 1 vertical red stripe on the far right and then green, white and black stripes running horizontaly. I look forward to seeing your future posts. Toodles!
